![]() ![]() We were fighting am impossible foe who had us outgunned and outtanked. Gaining a few advantages on the roll or even a triumph let me create story elements. Failing with advantage could mean I was laying down suppressive fire to keep an enemy contained, painting a target nd making it easier to target, or teaming up with another lower skilled character to keep minor enemies busy while the fighty types fought the big bars. I would still miss in combat, but I could generate results from the roll because it was seldom a flat failure. Likewise not a combat contributor, but things pplayed out very differently. In Star Wars around the same time, I was playing a Force sensitive mechanic. Binary task resolution meant my shit misses and that was that. I couldn't contribute and I wasn't valued. I'd make my attack roll with every bonus I could, I'd fail, and then it was the next person's turn. I had crap spells because I wasnt aa battle mage, and I really couldn't contribute in a fight.
